    Easy Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Chocolate chip banana bread is the ultimate treat for ripe bananas. This easy recipe uses 3 ripe bananas and melty chocolate chips to make a soft, moist loaf with pockets of chocolate in every slice.

This recipe comes together in one bowl, no mixer needed although I couldn't resist to use mine. I got a new KitchenAid mixer and I'm totally obsessed.

I personally get excited watching bananas sit on the countertop until their skin is freckled with brown spots because I know I will make banana bread.

    What makes this recipe special

This recipe comes together in one bowl. It is easy to whip together and there is very little room for error.

It is sweet enough to satisfy a sweet tooth but not overly indulgent.

It is packed with melty chocolate chips but still tastes like banana bread.

    How to Make Banana Bread

Mash the bananas into a uniform paste.

Add the eggs, sugar, butter, buttermilk (or yogurt+milk) and vanilla and combine until fully incorporated.

Add your dry ingredients; flour, salt, baking powder. Incorporate the chocolate chips and bake.

    Ingredients

    • Ripe bananas: The more spotty and brown they are the better. You will need 3 ripe bananas for this recipe.
    • Eggs: 2 eggs make the texture in this bread soft and pillowy.
    • Buttermilk: This helps activate the baking powder and adds a little tang to balance the sweetness. A good replacement for buttermilk is greek yogurt with a bit of water or milk.
    • Vanilla extract: Added to enhance the flavor of the bananas.
    • Butter: Melted butter makes it super easy to mix the wet ingredients and combine it with the sugar.
    • Flour: Use all purpose flour.
    • Chocolate chips: You can make it with milk or dark chocolate chips or a combination of the two. Also a chopped chocolate bar is great instead of the chocolate chips.

    Storing and freezing banana bread

Banana bread can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

This banana bread freezes very well either whole or sliced. Just thaw and warm before serving for best texture.

Banana bread tastes even better the next day so it is a great make-ahead option treat.

Reheat the banana bread slices in the microwave for 10–20 seconds, until warmed thru.
