This dish is a classic Dominican street food consisting of a base of French fries (or plantains) topped with seasoned beef, melty cheese and pink sauce.

With a few shortcuts you can make this recipe in under 20 minutes.
Recipe highlights
This recipe is Latin comfort food at its finest! Deep fried potatoes, topped with a juicy ground beef that has been simmered in sazon and sofrito, topped with melty cheese and combination of ketchup and mayo.
- Easy to make: We use frozen fries, store-bought sofrito and sazon and ground beef.
- Comfort food: This dish is pure Latin comfort food that is done fast.
- Easy to adjust or modify: You can easily adjust the amounts of toppings, add more or leave anything out.
Ingredients
- Frozen French fries: Choose your favorite brand and style of French fry. I like to use crinkle cut fries.
- Ground beef: Any ground meat will work here.
- Sazon: Store-bought Latin seasoning. It is a combination of cumin, garlic, ground achiote and turmeric.
- Sofrito: It is a Latin cooking base made with tomatoes, garlic, onion and cilantro. I used store bought in this recipe.
- Mayo and ketchup: Combine these 2 in equal parts to make pink sauce.
- Cheese: Any melty cheese works but I love the Queso Quesadilla that many stores carry.
- Cheese sauce: I used store bought queso blanco.
Step by step instructions
Cook the beef with the sazon and sofrito and set aside.
Make the fries according to package instructions. I made mine in the air fryer.
In a bowl combine the mayo and ketchup. Use a condiment bottle to store it.
When the fries are ready, top them with the cooked beef, add cheese sauce, grated cheese and drizzle with the pink sauce.
Serve and enjoy immediately.

Ingredient swaps
You can choose to make this Yaroa with French fries or mashed sweet plantains.
Ground beef is traditional but you could use ground turkey or chicken as well.
Feel free to use the cheese you like the most but a melty cheese is highly recommended.
Storage and reheating
If you have leftovers, store the beef in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Store the fries and the other toppings separately.
To reheat the beef, use a skillet over medium heat. I like to reheat my fries in the air fryer for the best texture and flavor.
