Halloween Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

If you are looking for an easy, savory dish to serve on Halloween for kids or adults, this grilled cheese and tomato soup is the answer.

We hosted a spooky Halloween party for the kids and these grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup were a hit! Not only were they cute but they disappeared in no time.

    Why you will love it

This halloween inspired grilled cheese and tomato soup is so easy to put together. You can make your tomato soup from scratch or use your favorite store-bought soup.

Adding cream and making a spider web design on top of the soup is the perfect spooky touch for this tomato soup. Serve them in these cute cauldrons for a festive look.

For the grilled cheese, I used sourdough and cheddar, cutting the sandwich into a spooky spider shape with a cookie cutter.

    Tools you will need

For this recipe you will need a spider shaped cookie cutter. This set includes a spider shape and other cute Halloween cookie cutters that you can use for other treats like my easy sugar cookies.

I served the tomato soup on a ceramic cauldron for a more spooky look. A set of black bowls will also work well here.

You will need a plastic condiment bottle to drizzle cream on top of the soup and a toothpick to make the spiderweb shape.

Adding small candy eyes to the finished grilled cheese, makes the sandwich instantly spooky and super cute!

    Ingredients you will need

Since I made this grilled cheese and tomato soup for a Halloween party and was making a lot of different treats, I used store-bought tomato soup.

    • Tomato soup: Pick your favorite store-bought tomato soup, I love the Trader Joe's carton of tomato soup but it you have time, homemade tomato soup is easy to whip up.
    • Bread: Choose your favorite bread, for this sandwich I tried the ALDI sourdough bread and it was delicious. Make sure there is enough room in the bread slice to fit the cookie cutter.
    • Cheese: Sharp cheddar cheese or your favorite melty cheese.
    • Butter: To lather the bread slices.
    • Heavy cream: A drizzle of heavy cream to draw a spiderweb is the perfect spooky touch for this soup.
    • Candy eyes: To decorate the spider grilled cheese, optional.

    Instructions

Prep the sandwiches: lather the bread with butter and put 2 slices of cheddar cheese on one side and cover with another slice of buttered bread.

Using a large skillet cook the sandwiches until the cheese starts to melt and golden crust forms.

Allow the sandwiches to cool down slightly and cut the with the spider cookie cutter.

Prep the soup: Using a medium soup pot, simply reheat the tomato soup. Once hot, ladle it immediately into the cauldron serving bowls.

Swirl a little cream on top and drag a toothpick through it to create the perfect spider web design.

Serve the grilled cheese and the soup and enjoy.
