Brevas are a Colombian dessert made with the early harvest of the fig tree. They are cooked in a sugar cane syrup until soft and jammy and topped with Dulce de Leche.
With a paring knife cut the stem off the figs and open a slit at the base. Place the figs in water for about 10 minutes, discard the water and rinse the figs.
In a sauce pan, add the water, brown sugar, cinnamon stick and star anise. Add the figs and cook on medium for 30 to 40 minutes until the figs turn dark green and are soft an jammy in texture.
Remove from the heat and place them in a single layer and allow them to cool down.
Add a spoonful of Dulce de Leche to each fig in the center of the slit.
Crostini
Slice the baguette into 12 pieces about ½" thick.
Lightly toast them in the oven or air fryer for about 4-5 minutes at 350 Fahrenheit.
Spread the whipped brie cheese onto each slice of baguette and top it with half a fig with dulce de leche.
