This easy watermelon lemonade is perfect for when you pick a watermelon that is not ripe enough and you want to enjoy a sweet treat.

This watermelon lemonade is refreshing, sweet and tart in the best way possible.
You can enjoy this lemonade straight from the juicer or blender or you can freeze the watermelon and make it into a slushy for a more refreshing summer treat.
Ingredients
For this easy recipe you only need watermelon, lemons and simple syrup.
I love to serve this with mint or basil for a fresh herbal taste.

- Watermelon: This recipe works best with a watermelon that is not overly ripe and sweet. If it is, skip the simple syrup or adjust the sweetener accordingly.
- Lemon: I used 2 large lemons, but this recipe you can taste and add more or less according to your taste.
- Simple syrup: Equal parts of sugar and water that get dissolved in a pot over medium heat. This is the easiest way to sweeten drinks!
Step by step process
Picking the right watermelon that is sweet and ripe is key, although this recipe uses a watermelon that lacked sweetness, here is a quick guide on how to pick a good watermelon.
I like to give my watermelon a quick rinse before cutting it. I add soap and rinse it throughly.
Start by cutting your watermelon in half. I like to to cut the watermelon into matchsticks for easy juicing.
I have cold press juicer but you can use a blender and strainer to make the juice.
Make the simple syrup by combining equal parts sugar and water and bring it to gentle boil until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Combine the watermelon juice, lemon juice and simple syrup and chill in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
Serve over ice and garnish with mint.
Variations and substitutions
You could use a maple syrup to sweeten this lemonade instead of the simple syrup.
Limes also work well here if you don't have lemons.
