    Easy Boursin Cheese Appetizer

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Boursin cheese is having a moment and this easy appetizer will be sure to wow your friends and family this holiday season.

    Recipe highlights

You will love how easy this appetizer is. It looks impressive and festive but requires very few ingredients.

This appetizer has all the flavors you love during the holidays; sweet fig jam, herby Gournay cheese (Boursin is the brand) and puffy, crispy pastry.

This easy bite requires no prep except for making a cute cut out in your puff pastry squares which is totally a show stopper and will make your appetizer look so impressive.

What is Gournay cheese AKA Boursin?

Boursin cheese is a brand name for the generic French Gournay cheese.

Gournay cheese is similar to cream cheese but Boursin has a more crumbly texture. It is mixed with herbs and spices which gives it a distinct aromatic flavor.

Boursin cheese is spreadable. It can be used as a dip, spread on toast, crackers and crunchy vegetables.

You can also bake Boursin cheese and make it a warm dip. It goes great with pasta too and can be use in a base sauce like béchamel to give it extra flavor and creaminess.

    What does Boursin taste like

The taste is very similar to cream cheese but with punch of herby flavors.

If you like garlic, chives, parsley and aromatic herbs, you will be instantly captivated by Boursin.

There are different varieties of herb and flavor combinations but the most popular is garlic and chive Boursin.

    Recipe ingredients

For this simple three ingredient Boursin appetizer you only need this ingredients:

    • Boursin cheese: You can use the wheel of Boursin or the Boursin bites. I used the Boursin bites.
    • Fig jam: Use your favorite fig jam to give this appetizer its sweet-savory contrast.
    • Puff Pastry sheets: Puff pastry is the best crunchy, airy, and lightly doughy vehicle to combine the Boursin cheese and the fig jam.
    • Herbs: I like to use a little bit of garnish such a thyme sprig or rosemary.
    • Powdered sugar: Totally optional but gives the puff pastry a nice and festive look.

    How to make this appetizer

Start by thawing your puff pastry according to packaging instructions. It will take about 30 mins.

Once the puff pastry is thawed, cut equal size squares. You should have 18 squares total.

Place the Boursin bites in 9 of the squares and top with the fig jam.

Cut a star shape in the remaining puff pastry squares. Do not discard the star cut out.

Place the star puff sheets on top of the squares with the Boursin and fig jam. Press the edges to seal.

Bake until golden brown, sprinkle with powdered sugar and garnish with thyme sprigs.

What to serve with this appetizer

This appetizer is a good size pastry. Pair it with other appetizers that are a little bit lighter such as fruit, fresh veggies or even a small salad.

This Boursin appetizer would make a great brunch starter!
