    Chef’s Spotlight: Sara Garrant of Bourbon Steak

    Meet Sara Garrant

    Sara Garrant is a rising star, she is the new Executive Chef at Bourbon Steak House, a Michael Mina restaurant at the Fairmont Scottsdale Resort and Spa.

    Born and raised in Alaska, you can imagine Sara is an expert seafood connoisseur and that, would be an understatement. She great up in a small community of central Alaska where fishing is a way of living. Her first memories with food are those of her mom cooking wild-caught fish to feed a small crew of 12 people.

    Sara decided to pursue culinary school in Canada and after she graduated moved to Phoenix where she started her career as a chef under the wing of Chris Curtiss at Noca.

    She moved to San Diego briefly and moved back to Arizona where she helped with the opening of Isabella's Kitchen.

    Later on, she reunited with Chef Chris Curtiss to work together at Bourbon Steak, this was Sara's starting point with the Mina Restaurant group, a long-lasting career path that allowed her to travel to Miami and work Mina 74 for a season and now back to Bourbon Steak as executive chef.

    Sara is young and vibrant, she talks passionately about food, nature and cooking techniques. Her personality shines through every dish she creates. Her expertise with seafood is a second nature skill to her and it's a treat to enjoy her dishes.

    Spring Menu Offerings

    Scallop Crudo with ponzu gel, avocado yuzu and masago arare

    I had the honor to be invited to Bourbon Steak to savor a special spring menu from Chef Sara. Lots of green ingredients, fresh seafood and perfectly seasoned and cooked steak were the delightful menu items that Chef Sara presented to us. My ultimate favorite was the Scallop Crudo with avocado crema and citrus paired with Fillaboa Albariño, a white Spanish wine. The citrus notes of this wine complimented the freshness of the scallops.

    English Pea soup, fiddlehead fern, Maine lobster and lemon oil

    Duck egg ravioli with melted leek, brown butter and noble bread

    Prime Ribeye withRed Baron onion, pommes puree and black garlic demi

    Passionfruit Pannacotta: Raspberry and guava sorbet, mint compressed pineapple

    Bourbon Steak is overall a great date night spot. I highly recommend making reservations for your special occasions such as anniversaries or birthdays. If you appreciate good wines and extraordinary food you need to put Bourbon Steak in your "must visit" list. On top of all the amazing culinary experiences that you will have, the staff at Bourbon Steak is fantastic, I was really impressed with the quality of the service when I visited with my husband for our monthly date night.
