    Baked Feta with Honey

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This Baked Feta with Honey lemon and thyme is a sweet and salty appetizer that is ready with minimum effort and big flavor payout.

    Recipe highlights

This baked feta turns the crumbly cheese into a spreadable, soft and delicious appetizer that is infused with thyme, lemon and honey.

You can eat this with crostini, crackers or vegetables. This is an easy summer appetizer.

This is so simple to make and the flavor payout is big!

If you are looking another great appetizer, try this Baked Brie with Honey.

    Ingredients

This four ingredient appetizer couldn't get any easier than this!

    • Block of feta cheese: It is best to choose feta in a brine as it will melt easier. A greek-style feta is highly recommended here.
    • Lemon: Will brighten up the flavors and compliment the honey.
    • Honey: It will give a nice sweet contrast to the briny feta flavor. If you are into spicy, hot honey would be wonderful in this recipe.
    • Thyme: I love using thyme and lemon together. In this recipe it infuses the honey with an herby flavor and beautiful aroma.

    Recipe steps

Start by zesting the lemon. Getting the zest without the white part of the rind is essential to avoid making the honey taste bitter.

In a small dutch oven or sauce pan, heat the honey with lemon juice, zest and 2 thyme sprigs.

Bring the honey to a gentle boil.

Use an oven safe dish with a rimmed edge to place the feta cheese and drizzle the honey.

Bake until the feta turns slightly golden brown and creamy and serve with your favorite crackers or crostini.

    Serving suggestions

This simple appetizer pairs well with fresh veggies, crackers and toasted baguette.

I suggest serving it along with a refreshing drink like this sangria, this would be a perfect 4th of July appetizer.

Olives, cured meats and fresh cut fruit and pistachios would be an amazing pairing to this baked feta. You can serve it as a charcuterie board.

    Ingredients

    • 1 8-ounce Block feta cheese Greek or French style preferred
    • ¼ cup Honey
    • 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
    • Lemon zest
    • 2 Thyme sprigs

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven 400°F.
    • Place the honey in a sauce pan with the lemon juice, lemon zest and thyme
    • Simmer for about 10 minutes until the honey is infused with the flavors and the consistency is very liquid/thin. Let the honey bubble and caramelize slightly.
    • Place the feta in a baking dish with a rim. Add the honey on top of the cheese, there should be a pool of honey in the baking dish.
    • Bake the feta cheese with the honey for about 10 minutes. Then broil 2 minutes until the top is golden brown.
    • When broiling keep a watchful eye as the honey could overflow from the dish.
    • Carefully remove from the oven and serve immediatly.
    • Serve with your favorite crackers or crostini or fresh vegetables.
