Ingredients
This four ingredient appetizer couldn't get any easier than this!
- Block of feta cheese: It is best to choose feta in a brine as it will melt easier. A greek-style feta is highly recommended here.
- Lemon: Will brighten up the flavors and compliment the honey.
- Honey: It will give a nice sweet contrast to the briny feta flavor. If you are into spicy, hot honey would be wonderful in this recipe.
- Thyme: I love using thyme and lemon together. In this recipe it infuses the honey with an herby flavor and beautiful aroma.
Recipe steps
Start by zesting the lemon. Getting the zest without the white part of the rind is essential to avoid making the honey taste bitter.
In a small dutch oven or sauce pan, heat the honey with lemon juice, zest and 2 thyme sprigs.
Bring the honey to a gentle boil.
Use an oven safe dish with a rimmed edge to place the feta cheese and drizzle the honey.
Bake until the feta turns slightly golden brown and creamy and serve with your favorite crackers or crostini.
Serving suggestions
This simple appetizer pairs well with fresh veggies, crackers and toasted baguette.
I suggest serving it along with a refreshing drink like this sangria, this would be a perfect 4th of July appetizer.
Olives, cured meats and fresh cut fruit and pistachios would be an amazing pairing to this baked feta. You can serve it as a charcuterie board.
