This Kylie Jenner avocado toast recipe has been viral for quite a while on all social media channels. I decided to try it myself and I can say I loved it.
I also made her ramen recipe and it’s one I make often.
The ingredients are pretty straight forward; avocado, bread, honey and chili flakes. The ingredients work together because they create a harmonious flavor profile that goes from sweet to salty and spicy.
Although the ingredients are simple and everyday foods, choosing the best quality will enhance the flavors.
What avocados should I use?
For avocado toast, hass avocados are a great option. To make sure your avocado is ready, you want to choose one that is a little soft but not too soft.
The best way to see if your avocado is ripe is by gently pressing on the skin of the avocado, it should be soft to the touch and give in a little.
If your avocados are not ripe, your toast won’t have the flavor and texture that we need to create a delicious toast.
If you are unable to find ripe avocados, your best bet is to wrap the avocados in a paper bag and leave them in your kitchen counter for a couple of days.
Wrapping the avocados in a paper bag will speed up the ripening process.
If you can’t find ripe avocados, some grocery stores carry frozen avocado cubes. These would work on pinch, make sure to let them thaw and mash them well.
To mash the avocado I like to use a fork. I mash it well but I like to leave some chunks for added texture.
Best bread choice
The bread you use for avocado toast depends on your taste. I like to use Italian crusty bread but a nice sourdough is always a great option.
Regular sandwich bread works on a pinch but definitely try to use an artisan bread for best results.
When using sourdough bread the best way to toast it is in a buttered skillet since it won’t fit in the toaster oven. I also like to use the skillet to toast my bread to get a more even toast.
I like to add flakey sea salt to my toast. Next time I will add a splash of lime or lemon to my avocado mash to add flavor and prevent it from browning.
