It is no secret that, The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is one of my favorite places to visit, not only because La Hacienda, my favorite Mexican restaurant, is there but also because it is the perfect family getaway, We have been celebrating special occassions, summer staycations and Christmas at The Princess for three years now.
Recently I had the pleasure of spending the night at The Princess for a very special reason; their partnership with Los Azulejos Tequila, a premium brand of authentic Mexican tequila from the region of Jalisco, Mexico, famous worldwide for the quality of its tequila. This new joint venture will bring Los Azulejos Tequila to more than 20 Fairmont Hotels across in the U.S. and Mexico and will expand to several other countries in the next year.
One of the most distinctive characteristics of Los Azulejos is the aging process; while standard tequilas are aged for 12 months, Los Azulejos is aged on french oak barrels for 30 months , which gives it a sophisticated color, aroma and taste. Besides the quality of the tequila itself, the handmade clay bottles that Los Azulejos uses to pack their tequila, are pieces of art made by artists in Puebla, a region of Mexico where the Talavera clay pottery is highly recognized.
We celebrated this special occasion with a variety of latin inspired food and tequila drinks beyond the classic margarita. Four handcrafted cocktails featuring Los Azulejos were the perfect way to celebrate. Each cocktail was made by one of the tastemakers at The Fairmont, representing the different restaurants on property; Bourbon Steak, Toro, La Hacienda and The Plaza Bar.

But if you really want to savor your tequila, sipping is the best way to discover the flavor and aroma. We were lucky to have Katie Schnurr, La Hacienda's Tequila Goddess, to walk us through all the Los Azulejos tequilas; Blanco, Reposado and Añejo, to help us discover the flavor behind each of them.

We started with the Blanco which is the strongest of the three due to a shorter aging time, a tip to enjoy this tequila is to breathe through your mouth after every sip to let the heat out. The Reposado is rested for 6 months in oak barrels and it has an amber color and caramel flavor. The Añejo is rested for 30 months and has a deep copper color and a sweeter taste to it.
Food included a great selection of cheeses and seafood. I loved the oyster bar, the ceviche creations and the abundant shrimp and different dressings to pair the food with. Dessert, of course, had to include churros with dulce de leche and chocolate, also modelo negra (mexican beer) bacon donuts that were to die for.
The following morning we enjoyed brunch at the Sunset Beach sipping on tequila sunrises and brulee grapefruit was a perfect ending to a day full of fun, great food, tequila and friends.
